Time: Starting 9:00 a.m.
Immerse yourselves in the epic and arduous race to the finish line, as over one hundred cyclists blanket the concrete pavement, battling against the pack with dreams of emerging as the 2013, “KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic Champion”! On January 1st, 2013, be among the thousands of spectators lining the over 100 mile stretch starting from Santa Elena Town, Corozal District, and finishing in Belize City.
Witness this historic ride-to-victory, a grand local tradition organized by KREM Radio, marking 23 years in existence!
Cyclists are categorized into three groups: (Open) Senior Males, Junior Males, and Women. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the (Open) Senior Male group will ride from Santa Elena Town to Belize City.
Cheer on the Women and Junior Males as they then hit the concrete, starting from in front of the Town Hall in Orange Walk District at 9:30 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. respectively.
Want to experience a true Belizean tradition? Come and enjoy one of the biggest events of the year, as local and a growing number of international cyclists face-off to not only claim amazing station prizes, but to win the first place prizes in their respective categories!
1st Place Prizes:
(Open) Senior Males: Trophy, $2,000 + $250.00, and a bull
Male Juniors: Trophy, $500.00 +$250.00
Women: Trophy, $500.00 + $250.00
As live radio broadcasting of the race echoes throughout Belize, travelers often find themselves cheering along in excitement as a motorcade of ambulance, police and team supporters (via sirens) alert the crowd of the approaching cyclists.
